Mercy Aid Australia’s first Project will be focused on Somaliland.
What is “Somaliland”?
Somaliland is a self recognised country in the Horn of Africa. While it’s still considered to be a part of Somalia, the region has it’s own government and currency.
According to a 2016 report made by the World Bank and the Poverty & Equity Global Practice (Africa), Somaliland has the largest amount of regions affected by severe poverty in the Somalian peninsula. Coupled with its tenuous political predicament and lack of UN funding not reaching these areas there is real possibility of a massive humanitarian crisis.
Somaliland may only have a population of approximately 3 million people, however their dire need for global attention has driven us into action.
Our Progress
To date we have assisted 15 percent of the region and plan on recruiting more volunteers and creating the infrastructure necessary to continue our mission.
